Remember when you fell in love for the very first time? What if you were to recapture that feeling by falling in love with yourself again? Not in a cheesy kind of a way, but in a nurturing way, knowing full well, that lately, you've neglected yourself by putting work and other people first, and been hard on yourself when you have fallen short of your expectations. Admit it, you've allowed yourself to be pulled along by the world's major current which says, "Work hard...work even harder...work harder still..." No one stops to ask questions. They follow like sheep until injury, illness or burnout strikes.
The end of one year and the beginning of a new one, provides us with a Golden Opportunity to do things differently. So, leave the setting of New Year's Resolutions to those naive people who are oblivious of the statistic that by Day 19, most people have abandoned their New Year's Resolution, due to unrealistic expectations, impatience or lack of support.
Start by choosing a word or an image for 2023, or both. Choose an area of your life in which you would like to experience progress. Then set a goal. Make sure it satisfies all the criteria for an effective goal and that it's not just a vague dream. Empower yourself with the most powerful tool, the belief that you can accomplish it. Partner with a coach, mentor or choose a role model, someone who can help you overcome your challenges. Remember, we were all born with infinite potential. It's still there, deep within you. If it's been lying dormant or has been under-utilized, how could you re-activate it? What would it take to become the best version of yourself?
What ingredients do you think you need to ensure your optimal success? Contrary to popular belief, neither intelligence nor talent guarantee success. According to research, the following ingredients play a much more important role: passion, willpower, discipline, motivation, courage, confidence, resilience, patience, optimism, a willingness to learn, the ability to organize, plan and communicate effectively and a sense of responsibility.
"Remember : If you live your life as most people do, you will get what most people get. If you settle, you will get a settled life. If you give yourself the best every day, your best will give back to you."
The attributes that you find amongst successful people, do not just happen by chance. They are the result of well-entrenched, daily habits. There are no short cuts. There is no quick fix. Anything worth accomplishing or acquiring, takes hard work, persistence and patience.
When you fall in love with the possibility of achieving your true potential, you will feel so alive, excited and unstoppable. Suddenly you realize that the sky's the limit and that you can do anything, especially when you ask for help. You will experience lasting hapiness, the kind of happiness that the trappings of this world can never offer you.
Begin your journey "home" right now, if you haven't already done so. It's the best place to be.
Happy N-E-W Year.
