Life really does challenge us sometimes, doesn't it? Isn't it strange how often, just when things are going smoothly and we're feeling on top of the world, that suddenly, out of the blue, something unexpected happens to upset our equilibrium?
Recently, on a visit to my favourite book store, I decided to take a look at the selection of children's books. Suddenly, I noticed a card stuck to the glass shelf directly in front of me which said, " Never focus so hard on the things you want, that you forget about the things you have."
" Wow, " I said to myself, " What a well-timed reminder. What if I were to apply those words of wisdom to my own life right now? " How many times have you had a similar experience where you have read or heard something that immediately encourages or inspires you?
I needed to be reminded that, " Life is a mixture of sunshine and rain, teardrops and laughter, pleasure and pain." It is in these contrasts that we find meaning and motivation.
When we observe ourselves more closely, we develop a sharp awareness and this enables us to change our behaviour and convert our knee jerk reactions into more beneficial and appropriate responses.
We need to remind ourselves that we cannot control everything and that sometimes it's best to keep quiet, listen and to learn from others. Then we need to take the required action and reward ourselves for each success, big or small. We thrive when we feel comfortable with the choices we have made. We flourish when we keep track of, and regularly reflect on, our progress.
" The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise man grows it under his feet."
